Homestay Day 6
The butterfly’s are blue and water buffalo are like skittish little dogs.
Everywhere signs of a world that evolved quite different than our own. We assume everything, but something as little as a light switch reminds you Kansas is a world away.
We get up early our breakfast waiting for us at 7:30. It’s the freshest egg omelette / bahn mi sandwitch I’ve ever had. Nothing is pre-made here. The chickens we see walking around our place supplly the eggs, the people up the street the bread. It’s a one road village. We are humble, and polite our hosts are gracious and strong we love it here. Our Hotel for lack of a better term serves coffee and drinks, travelers come in the morning. We meet a couple of people motor cycling around, each on his and her own journey.
We meet some of the world’s most well known cave explorers.
I give advice on cameras and sit outside the room letting the morning glide by. I watch passing dragon boats, some shuttle people to the caves above, and some fishing, living off the land. The scene, majestic, the water pristine, and the mountains stunning. Few places exist like this.
Dawn is in bed I take a bike to town. I meet some travelers, an Aussie and a woman from Japan. They are going to the paradise cave today. We extend another night it’s too peaceful to leave yet.
I take photos in town and meet some curious children and water buffalo. The water buffalo are more afraid of me than the kids. I get dawn food, a pork bahn mi, it’s spicy and tasty. Two cans of redbull just to see what it taste like. Still bad.
This is prime country, eye candy for the soul.
Dawn gets up and we venture out slowly. We check out the monument at the edge of the village. Dawn pets one of the only dogs that is friendly, most run. Dogs here aren’t pets, just animals that live on the edges of society. They don’t live long.
We pick up trash on the shoreline, then venture down to hear the briefing for the Son Doong Cave trip. We ride cycles into town and walk around. We talk to another homestay host who just finished his place. Children want to talk to dawn, they think she is pretty neat. I do too.
Dawn tries to pet water buffalo they aren’t having any of it.
We have dinner in town and drink cheap beer less than a dollar a beer it’s great. It’s been our first real do nothing day and it’s been amazing.
