Day 14 – Vietnam
We leave Nha Trang today. Our first view of the beach. This town is full of Russians and they all proposition me. I have no idea what they are saying. Dawn thinks it’s funny. They talk to me in Russian.
It’s the first city we don’t love. It’s ok but it doesn’t have the heart and soul that the other places have. It’s just a beach town with a lot of Russian tourists. We will take the train today to Saigon. From there a plane to phu quoc a tiny island off the bottom of the country.
Our room here has been the best it’s a safe haven from the loud scooter filled madness below. We stare out the balcony and just enjoy the view, the privacy, and each other.
We rent a scooter and ride across the bay to po nagar. Not as amazing as my son still pretty cool. It’s a lot easier to ride a scooter here. A little more laid back it seems, beach town and all. Nobody has cars here, everyone has a scooter.
We take our Xe May and ride it to the lousiane club. With a name like that we had to try it.
We sit in the open doorway overlooking the ocean. I order grouper Dawn orders shrimp. After dinner we head to the far end of town to look at the cable car. I think it’s one of the largest in the world it connects the mainland with an island resort I believe (don’t take my word for it). On the way we rescue a cat trying to cross the road. We help it across and hope it makes its way home.
The cable car is pretty neat and that side of town is way cooler than the center. Much like any beach town the locals get pushed out of the center it seems.
We drop off our Xe May and head down to the ocean to enjoy a couple drinks and to watch the waves crash. It’s two for one at the sailing club so we stop and rent some chairs, 35,000 dong ($1.66) each. The beer two for one at 20’000 basically makes them free in my book.
The beach is nice lots of Russians.
Tonight we take the train to Saigon. Another overnight train. It’s my favorite way to travel.
The beach is relaxing, cheaper than Mexico and just as beautiful.
See you later.
