Day 15 – Vietnam
We slip into Saigon under the cover of darkness it’s bustling already. 4:30 in the morning and everybody is up. The train station is packed people traveling home for tet. We see bikes packed for the train ride home. People take there motorcycles it’s amazing. All of Vietnam is in flux. Tet is massive.
We take a taxi From The Train Station to the airport. Our driver getting chewed out by the taxi attendant before taking us. I wish I knew what he was getting yelled at about. We eat pho for breakfast at the airport it’s great. It seems most people eat pho for breakfast here. I am not complaining.
The flight to Phu Quoc takes about 40 minutes. It’s hot here. We get to our room it smells musty. We head straight for the beach. We’re told by our hotel we can get to the beach following the moon resort road. It’s amazingly strange. Bamboo huts lots of them on the way. A small tiki style bar and a restaurant at the end of the walkway. A perfect sandy little beach. The waves are peaceful and calm, the water is blue and clear.
We eat some fresh fruit have a couple beers and get in. It feels great.
Junk boats troll the horizon. The water is calm and smooth. What looks like a bald eagle swoops down at the water looking for fish. We stroll down the beach lots of umbrellas we sit at one and just take a nap. I wake up and need something to drink. 2 Saigon beers and a couple waters don’t mind if I do.
It’s peaceful here no loud jet skis no frat boys. Just blue water white sand, umbrellas, and hammocks. Dawn and I tell stories and enjoy each other.
This is our reward for making it here. A couple days in the sun on the beach. We made it alive, pretty much unscathed. Slightly smarter and slightly better because of it.
Arriving here makes you want to stay. It’s a sporadic town not too many giant resorts. It seems to be a one road town up and down the coast on the west side of the island. Our cab was the slowest cab we had even been in and he passed some people. We will treat ourselves and just relax a couple days. Make our mind up if we want to venture more or stay and enjoy.
